Water Borehole campaign for Maisha Foundation

Thank you for taking the time to visit this fundraising page for Maisha Foundation. (https://www.maisha-foundation.org)

Maisha Foundation is a small registered charity founded in 2011 by three volunteers after identifying the high level of suffering of slum, street and orphaned children across Kenya. Our aim is to provide the advancement of education by provision of nursery and pre-school program, sponsorship schemes and health projects with priority to the disabled orphans, vulnerable and street children. We now have a team of 8, all volunteers - nobody is paid. All donations go direct to project funds.

Education is a basic human right which is why we are targeting the remote areas which don’t have this benefit. Health is also shocking with a ratio of just 1 doctor available per 50,000 people with many deaths caused in under 5s from preventable diseases.

We have managed to secure a 6 acre plot approx. 25km away from the nearest town – Nanyuki. This area has a real need for NGO intervention as there are no schools or health facilities around.  Most families here home teach their own children (having not been to school themselves) and most food consumed is all home grown but severely dependent on seasonal rainfall. Transport links are severely limited. With proper education, good health and good living conditions, the less privileged children will be in a position to support themselves in due course reducing the vicious cycle of poverty. This supports our key theme to “support others to support themselves”.

The project has been called "Maisha Foundation Village" and it will focus on three key long term outputs:

1. Children’s Home / Orphanage
2. Primary School and Pre-School Nursery
3. Medical Training and Community Centre

All of which require a Water Borehole System. With a borehole in place, this will allow us to generate our own funds to cover building fees through means such as farming and distributing enough water to the community for a very small donation to cover their day to day requirements of cooking, washing, bathing and their own farming needs as their sole method of income.

It is very important for us at Maisha Foundation to have a "green" and "sustainable" project with minimal to zero running costs. It is for this reason we are looking to purchase a solar powered borehole as opposed to one that runs off electricity but costs thousands to use each month. To remain completely transparent, I have attached the cheapest quote we have which is based in the local currency - Kenyan Shillings.

One of the pictures keeps cutting off the bottom section so the Drilling page comes to 2.734 million ksh plus VAT 16%  totaling 3.171 million.
The second page, for Pump installation and Water tower comes to 2.272 million ksh plus VAT 16% totaling 2.636 million ksh.

Exchange rate guidance is approx: £1 for every 125ksh and $1 for every 100ksh.

Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of a Water Borehole in a severely baron and dry area in Laikipia, Kenya and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me and thousands in the local community.

Asante Sana
