Eagle Scout - Mainspring Playground

Mainspring Schools is a nonprofit preschool in Austin Texas serving children ages, zero to five, many of whom come from some of the most economically disadvantaged families in the community.  Their mission is to provide the highest quality early care and education along with services for the whole family by focusing on innovative learning, physical and emotional health for the children, parent education, and family support.

One of the essential parts of the curriculum at Mainspring includes play and wellness learning along with a research based social skills curriculum.  A lot of this takes place in the outdoor spaces at Mainspring. There are several playgrounds for the children based on their age and developmental level.  

Hi, I am Matthew Reysa and I am a Boy Scout from Troop 159 in Austin, TX. Mainspring is the site for my Eagle Scout project.  I am going to be renovating a playground for the youngest group of children at Mainspring.  As you can see from the pictures, the current playground has minimal equipment and no ground cover.  When it rains, the playground is not usable because it turns to mud.

This project is important to me because of all the experiences I have had volunteering and helping with the kids at Mainspring. I know how much they need improvements to their playground. I also believe having a safe and developmentally appropriate place for the kids to play is very important.

For my Eagle Scout project, the playground will keep its same dimensions and will be covered with artificial turf except for the existing deck area which will remain.  Improvements will be made to the existing deck. There will be two pieces of play equipment built and installed (combination tunnel and slide structures) as well as a
sandbox for the children to play.

Your tax deductible donations will assist in purchasing all that is needed to make this project a reality. Any amount, whether large or small,  will be a great help with expenses.   I have estimated that cost of my project will be about $2700. Any excess funds beyond the cost of the project will go directly to Mainspring Schools.
