On May 11th, 2020, the Office of Marijuana Policy decided not to enforce existing residency laws established by the Maine State Legislature under the Adult Use Marijuana Program licensing requirements in Maine. In doing so, an agreement to withdraw a lawsuit was reached between Wall Street-owned dispensary Wellness Connection and the Office of Marijuana Policy, opening the door for a flood of endless “Big Marijuana/Out-Of-State” money to pour into Maine’s Recreational Marijuana Market.  Make no mistake, these new funds will be used to further discourage locally-owned small businesses' participation in Maine's adult use cannabis program.  That residency law was the last line of defense for a fair opportunity for many small businesses in the Maine Cannabis industry.

We, the residents of Maine are sick and tired of witnessing our government being used as a tool to aid big money businesses while that same government is used as a weapon against small business;  we are exhausted from our countless visits to our statehouse, our endless fights, and our unending sacrifices in which we exhibit our 1st Amendment rights as citizens, only to watch as our government fails us, time after time; as we act accordingly as citizens of Maine; as we obey the laws of Maine as written; as we continue to pay our taxes.

Are we to stand idly by, observing our own state government violate its obligations and duties to uphold the law? Should we turn a blind eye when the state becomes a party to an agreement to ignore the rule of law?

Once again, we the local folks of Maine have been thrown under the bus by those who are sworn to protect us and our interests.

- In 2010 Maine awarded 7 out of 8 medical marijuana dispensary licenses to people who were not from Maine.

- Local ownership opportunity came in the form of a Caregiver License which was unconstitutionally constrained by:
A: A limit of 5 patients at any one time
       B: A maximum of 1 employee
       C: A prohibition on caregiver-to-caregiver sales
D: Disallowing collectives or partnerships among Caregivers
E: A limit of 30 plants per Caregiver
(None of these limitations applied to the out-of-state-owned Dispensaries in Maine)

Please stop stacking the deck against local ownership opportunities in the Maine marijuana industry!!!

We, the people of the Maine Cannabis Coalition have no option but to request that a court require the Office of Marijuana Policy do its job and enforce the law.  This battle is NOT JUST ABOUT CANNABIS it is about PEOPLE vs CORPORATE GIANTS who think they are above the law and have more say than the citizens.  Please join us in this fight.  Spread the word and share this fundraiser with others.

Every dollar donated (minus Go Fund Me fees) will go toward the Coalition's legal team at Bernstein & Shur.  Our legal team has asked the court to enjoin the Office of Marijuana Policy from issuing licenses to non-residents in violation of the Adult Use Marijuana Law's residency requirement.  Please help us fight for the local folks of Maine.  Thank you for your help and efforts.

Anything and everything helps in this fight.  Even if you cannot donate at this time, please do what you can to share this fundraiser with others.  You can also get notified about protests, events, and rallies. Join our coalition and learn more through our Facebook Page!
