This fundraiser had previously only been shared privately among family and friends to protect Marta's privacy and normalcy since January.

Many of you are aware, but with the progression of Marta's disease we are sharing publicly her health challenges. Last Christmas, Marta was diagnosed with DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma), a rare and aggressive pediatric brain cancer. This is an incurable and inoperable cancer diagnosis with no available treatments at diagnosis outside of radiation and palliative care.

Over the past nine months, the Maier family has poured every ounce of their hearts and resources into giving Marta a full, vibrant, joy-filled life while navigating intense clinical-trial based treatment. As Marta’s illness has progressed in recent weeks, her physical needs have increased dramatically. She is now immobile, non-verbal, and completely deaf, requiring round-the-clock, hands-on care from Gabe, Megan, and her care team of close family members.

Right now, and as the disease has progressed for Marta, our goal is to surround them with relief so that Gabe and Megan can focus 100% of their available time, energy, and love on Marta’s dignity and comfort, while also supporting Jane, and Megan's pregnancy.

The funds raised here directly alleviate the intense daily logistical and financial strain on the household:

Caregiving & Household Services: These funds help relieve the burdens of deep cleaning, home maintenance, and specialized care support allows the family to keep their home a peaceful, quiet sanctuary for Marta and her strain relieving care.

Accessibility and Housing Adaption: These funds are supporting Megan and Gabe in outfitting their home for Marta's ever changing accessibility needs, and re-organizing their home to welcome a new baby in February.
