Beautiful, smiley, caring Maia needs our help ...
Maia,8 years old has never walked and has been confined to a wheelchair
Maias has a rare condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
It's a generative disease... So it gets worse with time.
She lost her muscle mass around 14 months old. At the time her mother Tegan wondered what the hell was going on.
Maia was put through constant tests for months. Finally, at 2.5 years of age, she was diagnosed with SMA.
Maia's condition not only affects her muscles but her organs including her lung's arms and legs.
Tegan is a solo Mum to Maia and Maia's younger brother Phoenix.
As you can imagine it's been a tough 8 years for them all caring for Maia full-time whilst looking for answers to help Maia.
HOW CAN WE HELP!??
A little while ago Tegan became aware of a drug that was having UNBELIEVABLE results for other kids suffering from the same condition as Maia.
unfortunately, the drug (Spinraza) is not available in New Zealand where they live as it's too expensive.
This miracle medicine is helping other children build up strength to walk, crawl and hold their arms up, and grow muscles. stop the muscle wastage Enough to be more independent, which as you can imagine would mean the world to Tegan to see her beautiful daughter be able to have this gift.
Tegan has made a very brave decision to leave her little man Phoenix in New Zealand to do everything she can to get Maia to Australia and on the miracle medicine.
I'm asking with my whole heart for us all to support Tegan to raise funds to get her and Maia to Brisbane so she can start treatment and have the change at being able to walk and move her body.
Tegan has started to make plans to get to Australia in early 2021.
They are needing funds for...
- Flights over to Australia
- Accommodation
- living expenses
- Transport for Maia to get to and from medical appointments. Tegan has a van in NZ that she will need to get shipped to Australia. This is a big part of the funds needed. without the van it will make things very complicated

I can't imagine how hard this is for Tegan to make this journey to Australia knowing she must leave her other baby at home in the hopes of giving Maia more quality of life.
