Aloha Everyone , Ohana & Friends …

This is a fund for our strong, amazing, one of a kind, Tyler Ashton and to support his journey of recovery.

I, Kahea O Nalani, his Girlfriend/fiancée and mother of our beautiful daughter, Kaleiaonalani (who we both love so much) we have started this fund and will be accepting the gifts we receive with our aloha and very thankful hearts. The funds will be transferred into our bank account to go towards Tyler’s recovery and healing and our family's responsibilities and needs.

We never imagined or fathomed ever being in this place. A terrible horrendous situation for our very loved Tyler. He was t-boned in a car accident March 30, 2024 (the evening before Easter) by a speeding, intoxicated driver on a main intersection in Orchidland, Hilo, Hawaii. Tyler was the passenger and only person hospitalized in the 2-car incident.

He was unconscious after the impact and was extracted with the jaws of life. He was first thought to be dead on scene, needed stabilizing in the Ambulance. He then was rushed to the ER then arranged while in coma state to fly him to Queens Medical center in Oahu the following morning of accident.

He is pushing through this so bravely and progressing day by day strongly. We are very proud of him and his perseverance! As he was at the point of passing away, he needed & chose to fight not just for himself, but for our beautiful daughter that we are raising together! We couldn’t be more grateful!

Tyler, because of this terrible situation has suffered tremendously. He experienced 16 broken ribs (every rib in his body). Breaking of ribs caused puncturing of both lungs, laceration of his liver and kidney and bruising of his heart. He had many mandibular fractures (facial fractures) which required facial stitching with multiple surgeries to address the fractures/injuries he sustained as glass cut his face open. There was a big concern about broken orbital (and losing his eye), additionally his broken nose bridge, tooth sized shard of car windshield removed from sitting in his throat as a part of the first surgery. He was on life support with breathing tubes, tube fed and many IV medications & blood transfusions,  his jaw was wired shut to re-adjust his alignment and removal of 58 more facial stitches.

In summary, his injuries included:
• 16 broken ribs
• Punctured both lungs
• Lacerated liver and kidney
• Bruised heart
• Facial fractures
• Broken orbital socket
• Broken nose bridge
• Breathing and feeding tubes
• Blood transfusions
• Jaw wired shut

Having Spent 18 Days Hospitalized, 16 days with ICU status, 13 days sedated in a coma state on heavy meds, the Doctors have told the family it’s a miracle that he is alive in his cases of injuires extent.

After ALL of the scares, heart drops, and staying hopeful as a family we are believing in his perseverance. Sending our thoughts of strength with lots of love surrounding him. Just wanting to hear his voice and see his beautiful eyes again!

As you can read just to begin this horrendous situation in explaining is a lot to take in and handle. Can you imagine the fight Tyler is going through, the things Tyler is thinking, the confusion he’s catching up on and may never fully understand! Frustrated, being the strong man he is, worried as the provider for our family always. As what we will do as he is in crucial pain & injuries needing constant assistance. Thoughts he is running through his mind. Waking up, feeling lost and confused as it was so sudden and unexpected. He asked first thing for our daughter as she is his everything. The hardest part he shared of his healing in hospital was when he awoke and was not being allowed to see her. It pained him so much that he was able to use as strength to really get back to her and home to us. His second thought worried on our situation of what we will do now while he needs to heal and recover, while he strengthens himself and our family.

Day by day since Tyler been released from Hospital has been an improvement to progression. A big change to our daily life in every step, through all the love & support we have received in these past days have truly helped in assisting us and given us strength to continue to Tyler’s continuous needs of his recovery and embracing our blessings we truly have with him and surrounded by.

A MAHALO to all of you for your generosity and prayers.

With Gratitude,
The Ashton’s
