Hi, my name is John Robidoux and I am fundraising for a community project called The Magpies Nest.
After making the Miller Lake Dragon, a Friend contacted me to help make a large Curio Cabinet to display local artists work.
The Maritime Burning Man group got together with the Halifax Makers and spent over nine months working on the Magpies Nest.
The Magpies Nest is an interactive art installation created by a group of artists and makers who came together to show what community driven art can achieve.
You may have seen the Magpies Nest at Antigonight or Nocturne in 2024. We expect to be at Nocturne in October 2025.
The Burners will be showcasing it at Sideburn, a regional Burning Man event in Ontario.
The Magpies Nest can hold about 40 different pieces of art, oddities or curiosities. We encourage local artists to submit pieces to showcase their projects.
So far, all costs (approx. $6,000) have been
collected from the building team. We would like to recoup these costs and fund the expenses to take the Magpies Nest on the road in order to showcase Nova Scotian artists.
Any additional revenue generated will be reinvested into Halifax’s creative community, with a dream of eventually establishing a shared art space for local artists and makers.
