1000KM Run in 24 weeks for Maggie's Yorkshire Cancer Support
Doação protegida
Hi All,
It's a sad truth but every family will have, or know, somebody who has their own cancer story; my family is no exception and unfortunately has a few stories to tell from over the years. My Nana Jeanie was sadly diagnosed with cancer in July of last year and has consistently shown us that her strength, bravery and fabulousness knows no bounds. Although she's not one to moan or one to want us to make a fuss over her, I thought (alongside Sam, Charlie & Joe) it was time to pinch a bit of that bravery to do a little challenge to help raise some money for Maggie's Yorkshire & other cancer support facilities across Leeds.
I will be running 1000km starting with Leeds 10k on the 15th June and ending with the Abbey Dash 10k on Sunday 30th November. Essentially it's 24 weeks to run 24 marathons (equivalent distance). All monitored through Strava to ensure the distance is hit!
Any form of donation would be appreciated along with anyone else who would like to join us to run the Abbey Dash and we can all grab a beer or two after!
A quick introduction to Maggie's:
When you’re facing cancer, you need more than medical treatment—you need emotional support, practical advice, and a place to connect with others who understand. That’s what Maggie’s offers.
Maggie’s is a free, welcoming support centre for anyone affected by cancer, including family and friends. Located next to major cancer hospitals across the UK, our centres provide expert, professional support without the need for an appointment or referral.
Our team includes NHS-trained staff, psychologists, benefits advisors, and specialists who offer help with everything from managing treatment side effects to dealing with money worries and emotional wellbeing. We run workshops, courses, and one-on-one sessions that empower people to take back control during a life-changing time; focussing on the things that really make a difference, like money worries, help with stress and depression, managing side-effects and relationship and family support. Our support has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing and to help people take control when cancer turns life upside down.
Maggie’s centres are beautifully designed spaces that offer comfort, calm, and connection—far from the clinical setting of hospitals. Whether you need a chat around the kitchen table or a quiet moment alone. There are no reception desks and no clocks; instead, we have comfy sofas and we’re here for as long as you need us
Your support helps us keep these vital services free and available to everyone who needs them. Thank you.
