Hello! I’m Madison Cook, and I’m running as a write-in candidate for the RSU 71 School Board because I care deeply about the future of our students, teachers, and community.
I grew up right here in Belfast, attending Waldo County schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. The incredible teachers and programs I experienced—arts, horticulture, and technical education—shaped who I am today. After graduating, I went on to earn both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tulane University in Louisiana. From there, I joined the faculty at Virginia Tech, where I taught design in rural Appalachia and served in several administrative and leadership roles, including on a high profile international search committee for a new school director.
After several years away, I’m so glad to be home again in coastal Maine, ready to give back to the schools and community that gave me so much.
My vision is simple: I want our schools to spark imagination, embrace play, and prepare students for the future. Every student deserves access to a strong academic foundation and meaningful opportunities for career exploration. Both are essential to building the skills and confidence they’ll need to thrive beyond graduation.
I’ve been honored to receive encouragement from local leaders who believe in this vision, including Mayor Eric Sanders, State Representative Jan Dodge, and community dance leader Chrissy Fowler—each recognizing the need for thoughtful, balanced, and forward-looking leadership on our school board.
I’m ready to listen, collaborate, and serve. Together, we can continue building a school district that reflects the creativity, care, and resilience of our community.
Thank you for your support—it can make an impactful difference on a local level.
