Madeline's MAF vision trip to Uganda
Donation protected
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Madeline Ungurain. I am a mom of twin boys, and for the past six years, I have been working towards achieving my goal of becoming a pilot, (which I have finally finished all certifications for in December 2022- yay!!!) My eventual goal of working as a missionary pilot for Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF) in Africa is beginning to unfold...
MAF is a Canadian organization, founded by Betty Greene in 1945. Betty was a former Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) during World War II and MAF's first pilot. Betty had a passion for combining her love of aviation with her love for serving God and bringing the good news to unreached places around the world. Today, MAF serves in over 34 countries around the world.
Like Betty, I fell in love with aviation while living in a remote part of Canada. When I discovered that missionary pilots existed, I was inspired like I had never been before. I heard of MAF for the first time in 2019 and immediately reached out. Since 2019 I have been involved with MAF, who have encouraged and supported me throughout my training, and even awarded a scholarship to me to complete my flight instructor rating in 2021!
Working alongside their recruitment manager, Ray, who has been mentoring and guiding me toward reaching qualifications for employment, my goal is to eventually be based in Central or Eastern Africa with my children.
This path towards reaching qualifications has included completing a semester of bible school, and an additional course on world missions while working towards the completion of my commercial pilot license, flight instructor, float, instrument, and multi-engine ratings; IATRA exam, and various safety certifications to be well prepared for this type of unique flying.
The only thing left to do? Go to the front lines and see what a day in the life of a missionary pilot looks like!
MAF has invited me, along with four others to join a two-week 'Vision Trip' to their base in Kajjansi, Uganda (HUKJ) in March.
During this time, we will have the opportunity to see how MAF uses light aircraft to serve the remote surrounding villages, offering a variety of services in partnership with over 1500 organizations (Samaritan's Purse, Red Cross, World Vision, and more) sharing God's love and truth, and ultimately, 'flying for life.'
We will have the chance to get our hands on the aircraft, work in the hangar, fly to some of the destinations MAF serves, and participate in outreach programs while ministering to others.
This trip will provide insight into the career path of a missionary pilot, and your support will offer me the chance to not only leave North America for the first time in my life but to do so with people who are living and breathing my dream job; people who have a passion for flying and serving others, to ultimately see whether this is the right step for me in my flying journey.
While supporting me, this also offers you the chance to make a difference and to see the impact MAF is making in the lives of people around the globe.
If this resonates with you and you feel compelled, I would greatly appreciate donations in any amount- no amount is too small!
The funds will cover airfare, lodging, food, vaccinations, visas, insurance, and a few basic supplies.
