Macy Couvillion Surgeries and Therapy Fund

This is Macy Joy Couvillion. Last year my best friend, Leah Annison Couvillion, gave birth to this beautiful baby girl who is blessed with an extra chromosome and diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Leah and her husband, Matt Couvillion, didn't know that they were about to start a very difficult road with their sweet baby girl. The doctors were not aware that Macy had Down Syndrome until she arrived. She spent a week in NICU before being cleared of heart issues - ya'll her heart is PERFECT. What a miracle for a baby with Down Syndrome!

However, there have been many many many setbacks and emergencies in her 16 months of life. In the last year, she's been admitted into the children's hospitals in Baton Rouge and New Orleans nearly every month with medical emergencies. Many of the emergencies revolved around an issue with liver enzymes reaching toxic levels - causing extreme pain for Macy and the possible need for future liver transplant. This is a very dangerous ongoing issue for Macy that requires frequent blood monitoring. There are many unknowns surrounding the future of this diagnosis.

In March of this year, Macy was also sent to Boston Children's Hospital to see specialists due to concerns with her eyes. The team of doctors in Boston have determined that Macy will need a delicate surgery to correct the issue with her eyes but she is too little to risk such a surgery right now.

Last week, Macy was diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. She stopped breathing 80 (EIGHTY!!!!) times during the 6 hour long sleep study. This problem will require SEVERAL surgeries in an attempt to resolve the obstructive part of the diagnosis by removing obstructions. Doctors will remove her tonsils, adenoids, widen her larynx,  and a possibly schedule a tongue surgery at a later date. All of these surgeries require an enormous team of doctors to monitor every aspect of Macy's little body. Macy will also require constant oxygen monitoring while she sleeps. The doctors have decided that she will also need constant oxygen flow while sleeping for the foreseeable future. This diagnosis was a huge blow and extremely scary. Her perfect heart has been affected by the lack of oxygen but we don't know yet the amount of damage.

In addition to all of the medical emergencies and surgeries, Macy requires physical, occupational and speech therapies. She receives an insurance-approved amount of hours but she NEEDS more.

Through ALL of this, Macy continues to smile and giggle and light up the world. Her 2-year-old big sister, Jolie Grace, is gentle and sweet with her and Macy adores her! When Macy loves someone she "growls" at them. I'm so proud to be growled at. SO PROUD. I don't know if she will ever know how much I love her and her big sister but I'll spend the rest of my life trying to show them just how much! Macy's parents need some help with her medical expenses, so we'll start here by showing Macy how special and IMPORTANT she is by helping her parents afford her surgeries, therapies, medications, and medical equipment.

Please help me to raise funds that will be directly used for Macy's medical care. They are the best people. Macy deserves the best care and therapies but we've got to find a way to help her mommy and daddy afford them! <3
