Mac’s Secure Sacramento Homecoming

Hi, my name is Camille. I am the youngest child of my father, Christopher, and I also serve as his health and legal advocate. I am starting this Go Fund Me to relocate my dad into secure, long-term housing in Sacramento, California.

Many of you know Chris (lovingly known as Mac) as an artist and as someone deeply devoted to his faith. In the last few years, Mac's macular degeneration has accelerated. He is now mostly blind and adjusting to this life change. The loss of his eyesight has had profound impacts on his independence and overall quality of life, as well as significant mental health consequences. Given his vision loss, senior age, and concurrent physical and mental disabilities, he is no longer able to work and now relies on social services to meet his basic needs. Due to changes in his current living arrangement, he is no longer able to remain in his present home and must secure stable, independent housing elsewhere.

My father survived nearly ten years of homelessness and housing instability, and my goal is to ensure Mac has a safe, stable, affordable, and accessible place to call home in this final chapter of his life.

We have identified a safe, accessible, low-income, very modest studio apartment in downtown Sacramento that Mac qualifies for and is within budget. He has been saving toward his first month’s rent and move-in costs, but he needs help meeting the remaining financial conditions for approval. Like many people who have faced long-term instability and serious health challenges, Mac has navigated financial setbacks that now need to be resolved in order to secure housing.

Though born in LA and raised largely in the Bay Area, Mac spent many formative years in Sacramento and has a strong, loving community there. At this stage in his life — navigating disability and his elder years — proximity to community and quality social services is essential. Sacramento offers him both.

In many ways, this move represents a homecoming — and an opportunity for him to live with dignity and joy, something I wish for all the elders in our community, especially those who have faced a lot of turbulence.

Thank you for any support you are able to offer, whether through donating or sharing this campaign.
