Since it’s inception in 2009, the Macon Street & Tompkins Avenue Block Association has been dedicated to the betterment, overall empowerment, and beautification of our community. For the past 8 years, the organization has contributed to the fight against food insecurity in the community of Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Due to the CDC Covid-19 Pandemic suggested guidelines, we are unable to facilitate our 9thAnnual December Holiday Food Drive in our normal manner. Nevertheless, there are more people than ever in need of assistance due to these unprecedented times. Therefore we have an alternative strategy as to how we can participate this season.

Please MAKE A DONATION to the funds that we are collecting for our group contribution to the organization Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger (Bed Stuy Campaign Against Hunger ), one of the largest direct providers of emergency food and related services currently working to break cycles of poverty in New York City.
Bedford-Stuyvesant has seen the largest population growth of any neighborhood in New York City (between 1980-2015), which has bolstered hospitality and retail businesses in the area. Despite this economic growth, prior to the pandemic, residents of Bed-Stuy have seen a 13% increase in the number of households living below the poverty line since the end of the Great Recession. This increase is even much greater now during the Covid-19 experience as a result of the clearly disparate impact of environmental, economic and political factors compounded for generations on long-term residents within the community. Bedford-Stuyvesant is one of the 7 top community districts in NYC with high levels of food insecurity (Food Bank For New York City Report).
