Medical Mission Trip to Honduras

Hello Friends and family,

I hope that you are doing well. I wanted to share some exciting news with you all. I have accepted the call to be a part of a short term mission team travelling to Honduras from April 2nd 2026 – April 12th 2026. I had my first experience in going on a mission trip to India in 2015. On that trip I went with team from my church to work at a children’s home in south India. That trip left a lasting impression on me and knew I would want to participate in more mission trips when the time was right. This time, I will be partnering with Lantern of Hope and Joshua’s promise ministries. The trip will be lead by Ms. Lavearn Brooker and Mr. Dondell Green. Ms. Brooker was called to be a missionary in Honduras and lived there from 2004 to 2014. During that time, she served in remote places such as Santa Cruz Del Rosario and El Cerron de Delores. She has been ministering to the Lenca people in Honduras. Despite returning home, Ms. Brooker’s heart to serve and spirit to be obedient to Christ never wavered. Since 2014, she has taken multiple trips back per year with teams to help her serve these remote communities. I am excited to go on another mission trip, but this time I will be serving in a medical capacity. Prior to going to medical school I visioned myself going on medical mission trips and serving in a medical capacity. I will be going as a resident physician and will be joined by two of my colleagues who are in my same residency, Dr. Xavia Taylor and Dr. Diana Rochez. We will be joined by several other medical professionals, including one of our mentors, Dr. Darryl Crenshaw. Myself, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Rochez have a strong desire to serve. Dr. Rochez has a stronger connection to Honduras due to being Honduran herself.

Ms. Brooker has had ties to Honduras for many years since she first became a missionary in Honduras. She has worked with the Lenca people, provided aide for kids to go to school, built a Sunday School classroom, built wells for the people to have access to fresh water. The Lenca people live in the mountains and the area is very remote. The area is now recently getting electricity and the average salary is less than $1 per day. While there, we will minister to the communities and provide medical assistance for acute and chronic ailments.

I once heard a pastor make a great point. He said “All of us can be a part of a mission trip. You are either the person going down the well; Or you are the person holding the rope.” At this time I would like to ask for your support. There are many ways that you can “hold the rope” as my team members and I “go down the well.” I would like to ask for your thoughts and prayers for the team. Prayer for our team leaders, Ms. Lavearn Brooker and Mr. Dondell Green; Prayer that we are able to see and accept what God wants to show and teach us on this trip; Prayer that the people we come across during this trip are welcoming and are able to receive what we offer.

There is also a financial aspect of support. Each team member must pay $2000, this includes airfare, lodging, food and materials. Each team member is responsible for 100% of the financial and prayer support. I greatly appreciate any amount of financial support you can provide. You can donate via www.gofundme.com/m6tfrx-medical-mission-trip-to-honduras. We can accept checks or cash. If we are fortunate to raise more than $6000 for the 3 of us, the rest of the funds will be added to the collective pot to buy additional supplies. We would like donations to be made by March 31st, 2026.

We would like to thank you in advance for your support. It is through your prayers and donations that We are able to “go down the well” and do this work.

Thank you and God Bless!!
Dr. Richard Ewoodzie, Dr. Xavia Taylor and Dr. Diana Rochez
