Lynn Tech SkillsUSA Nationals Trip

I am writing to you on behalf of Lynn Vocational Technical Institute’s SkillsUSA chapter. SkillsUSA is a national career and technical organization that emphasizes leadership, professional skills, and community service. In our chapter, we have worked diligently over the past several years to provide many whole-school community service events that benefit the City of Lynn, such as cleaning up local playgrounds and parks and raising over $15,000 for My Brother’s Table to name a couple. In doing so, we have brought a spirit of volunteerism to the students of Lynn Tech and increased participation in our local community.
This year, our chapter was honored by the national SkillsUSA organization with several awards. We received the President’s Volunteer Service Award and, for the second time, were named a National Model of Excellence. The Chapter of Excellence award honors achievement relative to SkillsUSA’s framework of developing personal, workplace and technical skills. As a result of this honor, we were invited to attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. In addition, two of our teams won gold medals at the State Conference in Community Service and American Spirit. As a result, they have all qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference.
In order to participate in the conference, we must raise money to cover registration, airfare and hotel costs. Our trip will only be made possible through the generous funding we have received from members of our community. As chapter advisor, we strongly believe that it is important for our young people to experience events such as this, especially when a large number of our students never have a chance to venture out of the North Shore area. The social learning, networking and professionalism that our students will experience is not something that can be taught in school.
