Hi, I’m Mac, and I’m raising money for my project called Luzes de Moçambique, which means “Lights of Mozambique” in Portuguese.
Last summer, I worked on a citrus farm in Massingir, Mozambique. I worked with many locals and learned that many of them lived in communities with no lights. This may not seem like a big problem, but it creates serious challenges:
- Wild animals attack kids on their way to school.
- Families can’t be outside after sunset (around 6 p.m.).
- Students and workers must prepare for the day and travel to school and work in complete darkness.
- Without surrounding city lights, nights are pitch black. (image below gives an idea).
Near the end of my trip last summer, I helped install solar lights in one village, and the impact was immediate. The lights transformed daily life and solved all of the issues mentioned above. Now, I want to expand this project to five more villages, benefiting about 1,500 people (below is the lighting plan for the Cahane Village, where about 500 people live).
Here’s how you can help:
$150 provides a solar light and pole
$1,500 lights an entire village
Goal: $7,500 to bring light to hundreds of people
I recently returned to Mozambique in March to begin installations on the first village. Help me provide just a few lights that will change hundreds of lives. Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference. Thank you!
