Luxford Centre Building Extension
The Luxford Centre is a small self-funding charity for the over 55s residing in Uckfield and surrounding area and is run solely by our volunteers. We currently have over 200 members and have facilities to meet, play and have daily activities.
The Centre building (originally the Town Library) was purchased in 1995 from East Sussex County Council to serve the older people of the community. It opened in 1996 and has been successfully operated over the past 29 years.
Our main income is from hiring-out the Centre to local community groups and clubs offering activities and services for all ages and backgrounds. Hiring happens mostly in the evenings and weekends when the club is not in use - about 350 people use our facilities every week and we would like to attract more.
Our smaller hall currently has space for 25 people - the building extension will increase this to 50.
Building permission has been granted and estimates suggest it will cost approximately £65,000. We have £25,000 already in the fund and we are asking for donations to help us continue to develop this community asset.
