Help Us Heal After Devastating Dog Attacks in Roe Green Park

Thankyou to all dog lovers everywhere. We could not have helped Lunas family without your compassion and generosity.

All are dogs could do with a day out as we have been too nervous to use our regular park until the attacking dog is caught. After all it's 6 dogs to date attacked by the same dog. Mind boggles as to why he wasn't muzzled after the first attack on Bella a small white dog like Luna.

I adopted a chihuahua named Lola and started walking her in Roe Green Park. It wasn’t long before we met other dog lovers, and I created a WhatsApp group called The Roe Green Ruffians. Our small, joyful community grew to 42 members, sharing tips, companionship, and daily dog walks.

But everything changed.

Over the past two years, several of our dogs—including Babe, Bella, and now Luna and Geoffrey—have been viciously attacked by the same GSD. The latest attack happened on April 13th, when the dog broke free and ran over 40 meters to maul Luna, a small white Havanese. A brave bystander stepped in, but Luna was badly hurt. Moments later, Geoffrey was also attacked.

The trauma was horrific. Videos of the incident went viral—viewed by over 4 million people—leaving our tight-knit community devastated. Many of us are now too afraid to return to our once-safe park.

Luna’s vet bills alone are over £4,000, with insurance covering only half. Bella’s owner was bitten while trying to protect his dog and needed hospital treatment. These families are facing not just emotional trauma, but huge, unexpected financial burdens.

Long-term: creating a safe space for small dogs in our park

Most communities love dogs as they help us heal. When you are lonely they are a companion, when you feel unsafe they loyally protect you. Even when you are cross they unconditionally love you. Dogs help the blind and others with hidden disabilities. Think of the exercise they help you get on walks and runs in some cases.

Small children cuddle soft toys and teddy bears till they graduate to owning a dog. We are never too old for hugs and cuddles surely.

Just to add. This is Luna and Geoff today. Just a huge scary to get rid off for Luna.

Let's hope her fur grows quickly. It's too hot to put her in a medical onezee.
