Luke, I'm Your Father

In August 2018 a little boy was enrolled in my class and would change my life. Just before the school year started he was put into custody with his great aunt and uncle and they were trying to do anything they could to compensate for the way his life had been going. This boy was full of wonder and did well but we knew the great aunt and uncle custody was temporary. After much prayer God's hand was visible as an opportunity presented itself for a long term solution. Nikki and Paul were considering fostering.

Nikki and Paul: The night before we decided to find out how to start the foster process, the decision had been made by Luke’s caregivers to find him a permanent home. Fifteen minutes after sending that first text, we had a call about starting the process and found out that a little boy in Kindergarten at Holy Trinity needed a permanent home. We had seen him before, and Paul’s 3rd graders had been reading to his class all year. I called Paul's parents to have them pray about the situation.  His mom started to cry and told me that God had laid something on their heart to pray for us. They didn't know what it was but had been praying for the last month for us. In order to meet and spend time with Luke in a less awkward way I was his “buddy” for field day just 3 weeks later to see how we clicked. We met one of his caregivers that day. June brought weekday and weekend visits after meeting with his caregivers and deciding that we would love to add him to our family. July he moved in with us. Paul and Luke have been inseparable ever since.

Fast forward to now, and Nikki and Paul are seeking custody. This will not be an easy journey through the court system but it is clearly evident that they are the best parents for this sweet boy. We would love to allow them any resource necessary for this process, and your help would be greatly appreciated.
