Luis for Chico State A.S. President
My Name is Luis Tiznado and I herby declare my candidacy for Chico State AS President.
My story begins the first day I arrived to what seemed like a town filled with nothing but trees, and squirrels. Aside from the difference in scenery I arrived not knowing a single person. Moving back to San Diego crossed my mind everyday for the following 2 semesters. How could it be that I now seek to be the face of such a powerful student body? I'll tell you exactly what happened.I fell in love with what Chico has to offer. This close-knit community has grown on me, so much that I now call Chico home. I feel proud to say that I now talk to local stakeholders an a daily basis.
Every incoming student should have the same opportunities and experiences as I did. Regardless of gender orientation, sexual preference, age, race, ethnic background: everyone deserves an equal chance to a successful and memorable experience at Chico State. Knowing community members who have had an impact on the university and community makes me feel a sense of belonging. Chico is home, Chico is where I have made the most impact on others and for the last 3 years I have set my best foot forward in making this community distinct. It is my utmost belief that every student should have the same opportunities disposable to them without having to face undue burdens. I was going to stick to running for a senate position, but felt that I was falling short of what my heart truly desires. The agenda that I seek to set will allow for Chico State students to feel embodied, safe when away from home, and connected to the community. I want students serving students, in their best interest. . We will assure this happens via an increase of student civic engagement on campus and our community.
· I founded the Wildcat ACLU which through community support, student civic engagement and dedication we have increased the voter registration on campus.
· I have organized Chico State and community efforts with Chico City Council Candidate Lupe Arim Law as she relentlessly fought for a seat on Chico City Council.
· I have set proposals that will impact city legislation through Chico City Council.
The Chico community has plenty to offer. Chico State students are the thriving motivation and energy behind the community. How lonely are the streets when students are out of town? What decreases do business’ see when we leave? Because of the great opportunities this community has given to me I now advocate to protect it, and ensure that the connection between Chico State and the University are innovated. I have proved beyond reasonable doubt that I have the assets to coordinate such a difficult process through-
· FANTASTICS community service between Greeks and unification of 3 different councils
· Unification of surrounding cities with the Boys and Girls Club
· Chico ACLU and community safety( Events watch during Halloween, and St.Patricks Day)
After a meaningful conversation with my mom, she consistently repeats that I need to be safe. As a mother she altruistically cares for me while I’m away from home. After hearing about a series of unfortunate events, mothers, fathers, and guardians will worry. If elected AS President I Will ensure that parents and guardians know that safety is a top priority at Chico State:
Basic Self Defense Training for Students, Statewide initiative for required 15-20 minute training on self defense.
Informational emails, literature, showing the improvements Chico has seen with the student body.
Funding/Campaign purposes: Your modest contribution will help fund my campaign events, literature, flyers and mailers. Thank you for your support. I look forward to a successful and memorable election.
