After more than 20 years of putting his life on the line to protect our communities from devastating wildfires, Luis Martinez is now facing a battle of a different kind: cancer.
As a dedicated wildland firefighter, Luis has spent countless seasons on the line, breathing in smoke and working long, exhausting hours to keep others safe. Recently, he received this diagnosis, and it has brought uncertainty and major challenges for him and his family, especially his son, Rooney. The funds raised through this GoFundMe will help cover Luis’ medical expenses and support Rooney’s education and stability as they navigate this difficult season.
We are deeply grateful to The New York Times for sharing Luis’ story and helping shine a light on what wildland firefighters and their families often face.
Luis has always shown up for others; now it’s our turn to show up for him. Please consider donating whatever you can — every dollar makes a difference. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this page helps more than you know.
