In July, Mr. Gonzalez will be released after serving 19 years in prison. We (Bailey, Cleo, Flint, Liam, Ciara) have all had the privilege of knowing Mr. Gonzalez through NYU Parole Advocacy over the last three years.

Mr. Gonzalez’s integrity, commitment to growth, and his love for others have inspired our team and the countless people whose lives he’s touched, as a mentor, personal trainer, and friend. While incarcerated, Mr. Gonzalez taught himself how to read and speak English, worked two jobs, and earned several vocational certificates. He will start work immediately as a cook, but hopes to one day become a mixed martial arts personal trainer.

So many people know and love Mr. Gonzalez: he has made lasting friendships while incarcerated through penpal programs and taking care of the people he knows, and he is so excited to see his sister, his grandfather, and meet his little nephews. Once he is out of prison, he is most excited to be free, be around people, and do the right thing for the people around him.

Mr. Gonzalez has been incarcerated since he was a teenager, and he’s thrilled to embark on this new chapter of his life. We are so excited to see Mr. Gonzalez reunite with his friends and family, who will support him in a successful transition. All the money raised will directly support Mr. Gonzalez with reintegration needs: saving up for his own apartment, buying groceries, transportation costs, and personal hygiene items while he settles into his new life.
