Luciana's Battle with Aplastic Anemia

Luciana is thirteen years old, she was born in New York, and we moved to Connecticut four years ago. Luciana is an 8th grader, and she is a high honor student. She loves sports; her favorites are soccer and basketball. She also loves Art, and drawing is one of her favorite hobbies.

Luciana has lots of friends. She is a kind, loving girl who is lovely to us and everyone she knows. She is a selfless person. She has the biggest heart and cares about others.

On April 28th, Luciana was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia/MDS at Yale Hospital. We noticed lots of changes in her; she had been tired, bruised easily, and she was also dizzy and looked pale, so we decided to take her for a check-up; she had some labs done, and that same day we had a call from her doctor saying that her counts were low and we needed to take her to Yale right away, since then Luciana's life change drastically, she became transfusion dependent.

One month later, Luciana did ATG, a drug made of antibiotics that suppressed the immune system. It's been almost six months since her ATG started, and unfortunately, her counts are still down, so she will need a Bone Marrow Transplant very soon. With the Bone Marrow Transplant, Luciana can live her everyday life again and do what she loves the most: playing soccer and basketball.

It's a long process, and even though we have insurance, there are lots of medical bills to pay, so we decided to open a GoFundMe account to help us alleviate some of our financial stress and to focus only on Luciana's recovery. Luciana is a very strong girl; she is a fighter, and we are so proud of her.
