On April 16th 2020 we welcomed our perfect little boy, Luca, into the world. Whilst everyone was adjusting to lockdown, for us and Luca life couldn't have been better. Luca slotted into our family right from the very first moment we brought him home. He was so calm, so peaceful and he made us feel a happiness we've never experienced before.
Tragically Luca passed away suddenly just 7 and a half weeks later whilst we were out for a walk. As doctors have been unable to explain the cause of Luca's death, we continue to question why Luca isn't here and why life has been so cruel to him and to us. We had so much love to give him and so many happy memories to create.
Whilst we know how upsetting it will be to face the milestones of the coming months - a year since Luca was born, since we welcomed him home and since we had to say goodbye to him, we would like to mark Luca's life in a positive way. We want to bring Luca's warmth and smiles to others through some fundraising activities, with the money raised providing much needed support to other families who face the same unspeakable loss as ourselves.
Our Fundraising Challenges
On Saturday the 24th April Paul will be aiming to walk 100km in 24 hours, whilst Phil will be busy completing a bakeathon in the kitchen making various goodies to donate in the local community.

How can you show your support?
1) Hold Luca in your thoughts - During April, particularly on the 16th, think of Luca, do something special with your loved ones or perhaps perform an act of kindness in your community in Luca's memory (we would love you to share it with us).
2) Get involved - perhaps you would like to join Paul or Phil in their challenges or to undertake your own challenge in Luca's memory? (The rule of 6 should be in place outdoors by then for any people hoping to join Paul for all or part of the walk)
3) Donate to our page - all contributions - no matter how big or small - will make a huge difference to the charities that have being supporting us.
How will your donations be used?
1) Bereavement Books - Parents who suffer the sudden loss of a child are catapulted into a world of unfamiliar and traumatic emotions. Many have to face the additional challenge of having to explain the loss to their other children. We will fund bereavement books targeted at parents and children to help them to normalise their emotions and start to process their grief. The books will be provided to families by their local bereavement nurse.
2) A Child of Mine - Since losing Luca we have received emotional and practical support from this amazing charity. They have also introduced us to other families who have suffered the loss of a baby, giving us the chance to speak to others who truly understand.
3) Edwards Trust - When Luca passed away, we received a referral from our GP to access psychological support. We thought this support would be readily available, but we ended up getting sent down a rabbit warren of questionnaires and helplines. We were almost at the point of giving up when we found out about the Edward's Trust who offer free counselling to parents who have suffered the loss of a child (as well as to children who tragically loose a parent). Fortunately they stepped in to help and have provided ongoing support ever since.
