Luca's Battle with E.Coli O157 and HUS

Donation protected
9/23: I am ceasing the fundraising aspect of my post here. Thank you again for all the prayers, kind words, and contributions. We are truly humbled by all of your generosity. I will keep this page active to give updates as I get them. So far, Luca is at home and will follow up in two weeks. If you want to reach out to me, please email me via [email redacted] or text me at (401) [phone redacted].

9/21 Update: Luca has been discharged today. After 4 days of his lab work getting slowly better, today his labs came back better than expected and the doctors felt he was good to be discharged. They say he will still need many follow up appointments to keep an eye on his recovery until it is complete!

I want to thank each and every one of you for your prayers, contributions and sharing of this page. The relief is great and we are absolutely humbled by you all!!
********************************
Hi, my name is Patricia and my 10 year old grandson, Luca, has been in the Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego since September 10th with an extremely severe E.Coli O157 H7 infection which then caused him to develop Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome or HUS, for short.

It is a serious disease that affects the kidneys and blood clotting system. Luca has since received platelets, blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. And he remains getting that treatment for as long as it takes for his body to recover.

My son, Miles, Luca's Papa,is the only wage earner in his family with his wife, Lauren, and Luca's two half brothers, Penny (2 1/2 years old) and Apollo (1 year old). Luca also has a brother from his dad's previous marriage to Luca's mom, Harlow (7 years old).

We are told that Luca may be in the hospital for an extended period of time. And, Miles will lose part of his needed income to support all four of his sons and his wife on days he cannot work or needs to be at the hospital for an extended time.

Any donation, even the smallest amount, would be greatly appreciated and will go directly to Miles to handle increased gas, food, housing costs, medical costs (if needed) etc. Not having to worry about paying those increased bills, I am sure, will ease some of the immense stress that everyone is going through.

We have the whole world praying for Luca and I know those prayers are being answered. He has a long and rocky road ahead of him and may be in the hospital for quite some time.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you are unable to contribute, please consider sharing this page.
