Seena Larkin is a talented and generous soul who is a mother of three, wife, daughter, sister, and friend to many. She is a graphic designer and homemaker. Her contributions to her community of late have included volunteering to her children’s schools in many capacities (most notably as yearbook photographer and motor skills coordinator). She has taught after-school youth classes for her church, Christ the King. Seena was also a Cub Scout den leader and summer day-camp counselor. She is always willing and eager to help a friend, family member, or neighbor in need.
In early October, at the age of 38, Seena was diagnosed with colon cancer. A single tumor was found during an early screening process, which doctors performed proactively as Seena’s own mother died of colon cancer at the age of 49. Seena will be having surgery to remove the portion of her colon with the tumor and then reattach her colon to her small intestine. At that time she also plans to have a hysterectomy, as she has the BRCA2 gene mutation which puts her at a high risk of ovarian cancer.
I have been asked by the Larkin Family to help them raise funds to bridge the financial gap that is left as Seena is treated. The family is undergoing some financial strain, in part as Seena has not yet received payment for disability time taken earlier this year for knee surgery. She is currently taking time off from her part time job at Starbucks to receive treatment for her cancer. Aaron Larkin, Seena’s husband, is a self employed mechanic, and as such does not have access to Paid Family Medical Leave. The time he takes to help Seena recover will leave a gap in their income, and we’re hoping to raise funds to help them make ends meet.
I know that many in our immediate community have asked how they can help, and we will share progress and hopes with you as Seena’s story continues to unfold. We may ask for other forms of assistance later if needs arise. At the moment, in addition to the concern for her health, the family is under strain from these financial burdens. Any amount would be gratefully received. All funds raised through this campaign have been set up for Aaron and Seena to have exclusive use and control of for the family.
