Here at Chadito's Mexican American Grill, we recognized a growing need for a local small business to step up and help serve our local communities hunger needs in the best way we know how.... Through Tacos!
When our local schools started to close in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we realized that this left many school aged children, who sometimes get up to three meals a day from their local school without a fresh wholesome made meal.
On March 15, 2020, Chadito's Mexican American Grill started to fill this void, we started helping our community by providing free food for kids in need, with a no questions asked policy. Parents could come to our restaurants, ask for a meal to help feed their children and not be judged. Included in the meal is a taco of their choice, nachos with cheese dip, and a cup of apple sauce. FREE, NO PURCHASE REQUIRED! After a few days of providing these meals we quickly realized that there was a growing need for this service in our community, which has in just over a few weeks turned into providing over 900+ free meals for kids.
We shared our community project over our Facebook page, the response from our customers and general public was truly humbling. The initial Facebook post explaining our mission of providing these meals for the community was shared almost 1000 times and viewed over 80,000 times. Over the last couple weeks donations, and extra tacos were being bought on a pay it forward type of process to be passed along to in these lunches. The amount of public support has just meant so much to us, and with this Gofundme we could do so much more and help so many more people in the community.
I was asked what we would do with the funds from this Gofundme campaign. My answer is, "Help more people, more often." If this continues to grow the way it has over the past few weeks, and with enough donations and community support, Chadito's Mexican American Grill could scale this out to not only helping school aged children, but we could also help feed anyone, at any time they would need a meal. The customer would just come into the restaurant, ask for a meal that has been paid forward, and we would serve that person a warm free meal with no questions asked. Another thought that we had was that we could use those funds to help our local homeless shelters by helping provide meals for those in need. The giving possibilities are endless, but Chadito’s Mexican American Grill can only do so much without your help. Any donation will help provide these meals to people in our community that need them.
Thank you for your support,
Chad Reese
