I am an independent US citizen working on humanitarian efforts, I am not affiliated with any group or organization, political or otherwise.

Many of you already know of the efforts I have put forth assisting the migrant caravan, but for those who do not I will explain. I am a freelance photographer who has been living and working in Mexico for almost two years, on projects, including the earthquake recovery efforts in 2017.

When the first of the migrant caravans arrived in Mexico City in November, I went to the camp to document what I could. The first thing I noticed was a semi trailer stop in front of the camp, and a bunch of people spill out. I noticed one boy who seemed very weak collapse to the curb and his portrait was the first I took.

As I walked around the makeshift migrant camp, many children followed me begging me for food.

When I got home and reviewed my photos, I kept going back to the image of the boy on the curb, I could tell something was wrong. I also kept thinking of the children begging me for food and my heart began to ache.

I felt like no sane person could walk away from this situation without doing whatever they possibly could to help. So I posted their images on FB and started a fundraiser for food.

I went back to the camp the next day to check on the boy, but I discovered his mother had rushed him to the hospital. So left a note instructing the mother to call me.

Over the following days,  I was surprised by how much money I raised, and I began to take loads of food to the camp where I fed as many children as I could.

Finally, I got a call from the mother, and she informed me of the severe medical condition her son was in, and I knew he would not make it by foot over a thousand miles through Mexico's worst areas. So I bought a backpack and filled it with clothing, supplies, a blanket, and healthy food, and then I bought the mother, the seven year old boy and his two sisters, bus tickets north to the border, and the day he was released from he hospital they left.

A couple days later, I flew to meet them. In Tijuana, I made daily trips to the migrant camp, bringing loads of food to more hungry children.

The kids loved apples, "manzana, manzana" they would say when they saw me, as they hugged me, smiled, and played with my blond hair.

When I met up with the the family, the boy still had on the coat I had bought him even though the weather was warm, he said it was a good luck charm. However he was still very sick and could barely stand, so I bought him much needed medications and knowing he needed proper medical care, I quickly found a group of volunteer immigration lawyers who escorted them across the border.

Then they appeared before a judge, and due to the boys illness, he allowed them into the USA, with a pending court date, and an electronic ankle bracelet placed on the mothers ankle.

I bought them bus tickets to New Orleans where a sponsor family is now housing them in a healthy and safe environment, and I was able to find a local charity group for refugees to assist them with their immigration hearings, and provide the boy his much needed medical care.

I keep in touch with them daily and do all I can to help, but I would not have been able to any of this without the help of donations.

I started this GoFundMe so I can continue my efforts to help more children eat, and help more families in any way I can.

While I was in Tijuana I documented what I saw, which was beyond words. Their living conditions were and still are a living nightmare. Up to 10,000 migrants have been forced into an old abandoned night club, a 45 minute drive from the border, that has no fresh air, no electricity, and no running water. They are overwhelmed with sickness including TB.

The children are starving, and the simple truth is that some are starting to die. One child died on Christmas day, and I even saw a dead body in the camp while I was there.

On Jan 15th another caravan will be leaving Honduras, and will arrive in Mexico City soon. Again there will be starving and sick children who will be in need of food and care. These children are innocent and deserve all the comforts and neccessities that can be provided.

I am doing all I can, but I could do so much more with proper resources. Money goes a long way here, and every dollar donated helps more than one could possibly imagine.

I am also working with a university professor with a lifetime of experience working as a humanitarian who is helping me organize more effective strategies, and I am finding more and more people who really want to help.

If we all pull together we can make a difference. We don't have to let inhumane policies and a dysfunctional government allow people to suffer to such a pitiful degree.

I have seen what I can do with real resources...

I have been able to change the fate of a family forever and set them on their path toward their American dream, and I have been able to make countless hungry children smile and laugh while they chowed down on "manzanas".

Even one dollar makes a huge difference. Here a taco is .50 cents. That is two children who can go without hungry pains for at least a day.

Thank you all!
