Hello friends and supporters of Candida and her amazing family.
Our dear friend and sisStar is in need of the love and intentional support of the community.
In 2018 Candida made the choice to remove herself and her girls from an abusive situation at home. We acknowledge and admire the courage it took for her to navigate moving herself and her children form the home they’d been living in to a less favorable, but safer space until it was safe to move back home. You’ll be happy to hear that Candida and the girls are back in their home, they are safe, but they are in need of resources to recover from the traumatic affect this ordeal has had on Candida’s health, as well as the health of the children.
As you can imagine, the financial strain has lead our beloved to another difficult and courageous decision to reach out to some of us for help. There are many needs that a small group of us have already started to tackle. Proving once again that “many hands make light work.”
There are still urgent and specific needs that we are hoping you all can help us address to help keep Candida and her family safe, support their health and well being, and put words like COMMUNITY, LOVE, and SUPPORT into action.
As the sole provider, primary nurturer and caretaker of her household, Candida’s health and finances have suffered as a result of the trauma they’ve been privately experiencing over the last decade.
We are asking the community to join us in helping Candida and the girls gain some stability at home so that she can continue to be a resource and advocate for equitable arts funding and leadership. There are a few ways you can help:
Donate TIME: Recovering from domestic trauma and sudden displacement makes ongoing appointments, court dates and obligations to “show up” an emotional and mental burden; a bit of your time can help ease these burdens.
Donate SERVICES/SKILLS: As mentioned there are necessary repairs that our handy friends can donate their skill set to. There are many small and large projects we can plug in to.
Donate MONEY: This process has put financial strain on her and is something that could devastate and displace many of us. Donating money helps Candida catch up on her mortgage, utilities, pay for house repairs and clean up from vandalization and other damage to their home. Any amount is appreciated, and positively impacts the lives of a family we love and care deeply about.
