Love For Clover
Donation protected
My name is Lacey and I want to introduce you to a wonderful woman named Clover. She has a son and a dog.
(This is Chaz. He is amazing and perfect and I love him.)
Her interests include CAPSLOCK on Fridays, and sometimes on other days when she deems it appropriate, and she is a lover of [gasping in spanish]. Clover lives a happy and healthy life.
Until recently. The morning of December 12th, my boyfriend and I both woke up seeing missed calls that we had received from her from the night before - between 11pm and midnight. We got in contact with her as soon as we could. We were appalled at what she had to tell us. Long story short, her husband decided that he was going to protect her from her past abuser by becoming an even worse abuser.
He took it upon himself to punch her, choke her, and harm her in many other unspeakable ways. Bruises and cuts cover her body. Blood was spilled and had to be cleaned up.
She called the police, and he was taken away. All of this happened while her son was home. Luckily he didn't see the assault itself, but he is aware of what happened.
Unfortunately, her husband was the only one working at the time, and he assured her that the rent for January was already paid. Not only did he beat her, he lied, too. January's rent has not been paid.
She was already in the process of looking for work before this all happened. Now she is too embarrassed to go out in public. If you were an employer and you saw someone come in with a face, neck, and arms covered in bruises, what would you think? The chances of her finding work are slim until she can heal.
Which brings us to this, me creating a page to help my friend. She is living in an apartment in Salt Lake City that she cannot afford. Not only that, but she wants to leave because being there is just a constant reminder of the trauma she has faced. Her son doesn't want to go to school and he insists on sleeping in the same bed as Clover because he is so scared and worried about her.
If you could help Clover with coming up with rent, food, and other expenses, I would appreciate it. I know she would, too. I love Clover, and she is a truly magical person. I can't even begin to image the emotional and physical pain that she is suffering right now. If we can help her financially, I think that would help her significantly. If you can't donate, please share and spread the word.
I will update here and keep everyone in the loop as I get more information. Thank you all, and I hope you have a great holiday season.
To contact me or Clover, please send an email to [email redacted].
UPDATE 12/21: I chatted with Clover this evening, and she gave me an update. She is doing a bit better, she is eating more, and she misses her son (who is currently staying with her mother). Chaz is being a good boy and keeping her company. He is also hogging all of her blankets. She is so amazed and thankful for all of the love and support that everyone has been showing. She is positive about the future and she is slowly healing. New bruises are showing up still, but overall she is feeling a little better. She is working on healing mentally, as well.
I asked about her husband. There is a small chance that his charges may be reduced to just misdemeanors... and this upsets me. However, the chances are slim as his judge is a woman so we are hopeful that he will be in jail for a long time. I will update here as I learn more.
I upped the donation goal. I did this because I want her to be able to get out of this apartment that she was abused in. She is struggling with seeing the places that she associates with the trauma, understandably. Ideally we would get her to a new home. As things stand right now, she is waiting to get paperwork so that she can get her husband removed from their lease, which would allow her to break her lease and find a new place. If she can't get a new place that she can afford then she will have to go to a shelter for a while. Most shelters don't take dogs, meaning she would need to give up Chaz until she gets a new place (or permanently...). Let's try to get her enough money to get a new apartment that she can live happily with her son and dog again.
Thanks so much to everyone that has donated so far! I am in awe with how amazing everyone has been! Thank you, so so much!
