‘We envision communities forged through relationships based on mutual aid and cooperation. We use donations and the distribution of free items as a catalyst for change and to demonstrate what can be done when communities work together.’
Lov Kitchen
Lov Kitchen is the burgeoning offshoot of the Los Angeles Non-profit organization Lov Movement: a group of likeminded individuals providing food, clothing, PPE, books and hygiene products, as well as much needed ancillary services to the unhoused and underprivileged community of skid row in Los Angeles and of the Giotto slum in Kenya. What started as a few sack lunches has grown into a weekly hot lunch service that provides between 100 and 150 hot meals per week on a small budget of $100. Currently a private donation only operation, Lov Kitchen is aiming to expand over the next months to achieve non profit status in order to have access to grant funding and commercial kitchen space to serve a larger swathe of communities in need.
Your donations via this fundraiser will be put toward expanding the reach of Lov Kitchen via incorporating as a non profit, direct food purchases and craft kitchen rental for fabricating food for our community food drops. (Update! Because of your generous donations we are now an officially recognized Non profit entity! If you have donated, please use the id # 87-1798268 for your taxes! We couldn't have done it without you!)
Lov Kitchen is cultivating strategic partnerships with several food banks to repurpose overage of raw product into nutritious prepared meals for the underserved and unhoused. It is our belief that no one should go hungry when there is so much food currently going to waste that can be rescued and used to nourish local communities in need. Our intention is not just to provide meals, but to make them, with love and heart, so that those we serve feel cared for, seen and heard. There are currently 15,000 chronically homeless individuals in Los Angeles and 69,000 people who are intermittently homeless with the trajectory on the rise. Serving a hot meal under the umbrella of Lov Movement and potentially other non profit organizations opens the avenue for the linking of other vital services such as medical check ups, social services and re-housing efforts. It is our aim not to make the community reliant on us, but to act as a conduit into better circumstances for the community we serve. As Lov Movement inspired Lov Kitchen, we hope that the message and outreach only grows, truly sparking an actionable and attitudinal shift to ease the burden of one of the most difficult social issues of our time.
