Again this Christmas, Lounge Lovers is visiting and making a donation to a local orphanage in Manila. Last year, the visit went well and was very rewarding.

A Home for the Angels cares for up to 25 children under the age of seven. During our visit, there were 21 children at the centre, including one infant in the ICU who was to be transferred once her condition improved. Many of these children were abandoned as babies and infants in difficult circumstances and were in poor health.

Last year with the donation, the team personally purchased and delivered:

20.4kg powdered toddler milk (enough for approx. 105L)

372 nappies

50kg rice

10 whole chickens

10kg beef

20 packs Arnott’s Milk Arrowroot biscuits (brought from Australia)

Toys and gifts for 21 children

What stood out most during our visit was how happy the children were and how caring the environment was, but also how tired the staff were ,which is understandable when caring for so many young children. It’s also a very busy time of year for the workers, as Christmas is when the centre relies heavily on donations and visitors.

This year, we want to make a difference for the children while also recognising the hard work of the carers. We will be giving a cash donation to the centre and putting together small gift packs and thank you cards here in Australia to give out to the staff on the day.

The cash donation will go towards hospital care for the babies or to purchase supplies at a time of year when donations can be lower.
