Aloha dear friends and community members,

My name is Devi, and I’m writing to ask for support for someone who has given so much, for so long, to so many.

As most of you know, my dear friend Lotus, 84 years old, recently lost her beloved husband Sun Dancer, who was himself a huge bright light in the Maui community. During Sun’s long illness, Lotus was there as his full-time caregiver. They were blessed to spend 28 years of their lives together, making their partnership a shining example to all around.

Lotus is a gifted pianist and devoted teacher who still maintains a private teaching practice. She has taught countless piano students, many of whom credit her with awakening their love for music. Twice yearly she shines behind the grand piano at the performances of the Maui Choral Arts Association, often to standing ovations. Lotus has volunteered for many years all over the island, just for the joy of helping others shine. Her musicality is matched only by her humility.

Sunny’s recent passing has left not only an emotional hole in Lotus’ life, but a financial one as well. His income helped sustain both of them, and now she is facing financial vulnerability. Medical and dental needs, rising rent, and the high costs of living have made it clear: she cannot do this alone.

With the full support of Lotus’ wonderful daughter Erin, we are now asking for your support in raising the funds of $30,000 to help cover:

-Housing costs

-Dental work and uncovered medical needs

-Breathing room to allow Lotus to continue teaching and performing without immediate financial pressure.
