To start, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Connor Gillespie and I am an Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 1775. Over the span of nearly eleven years, I have been very grateful for the many friendships and adventures I have experienced within the program. From riding the rapids of the Kern River to sleeping under the stars in Shaver lake, I have had my goals set to becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest rank of achievement in the program. As my scouting journey is coming to an end, I have a final obstacle I must overcome: the Eagle Scout service project.
When it became time to start brainstorming a project idea, I was immediately hooked on the idea of a technology-based service project. As a scout, I was introduced to the topic of technology through a merit badge course focused on electronics. As a young adolescent, the idea of implementing your imagination into a computer program was astonishing. After completing the course, I decided to pursue my passion for technology through the ValTech program at Valencia High School. This choice has led me to pursue an education in software development and compete in cybersecurity competitions around the globe. With this in mind, I decided to center my project around the topic of technology.
After careful consideration, I have decided to work with the local nonprofit organization LOT318. LOT318 provides services to at-risk youth of the community with the intent of drawing them away from surrounding gang activity. One daily service LOT318 provides is a homework club. This service provides academic counseling and tutoring in a variety of subjects for elementary to high school students. The goal of LOT318’s homework club is to push students to reach their full academic potential and to spark interest in the pursuit of higher education.
To complete my Eagle Project service project, I will be building and donating up to four desktop computers to LOT318’s homework club. Over the course of three weeks, I will be leading a select group of middle and high school students on the topic of building a computer. At the end of the project, I will be donating one of the computers to LOT318’s homework club. Additionally, each student that participated in the project will get to keep the computer they built. I am hoping through my Eagle Scout service project to share my passion for technology with the students of LOT318 and ignite an interest in technology that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
I am creating this GoFundMe because I am in need of your help. The expected total cost of my project is approximately $3400 to cover the costs of the materials needed to build multiple computers. For a detailed, current list of the materials needed to complete a single computer, please visit the following link https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MKM6bh to access the list.
Any donations of any amount, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and will go towards benefiting the youth of LOT318.
Thank you again for your support.
