Hi my name is Aideen I had a very tough pregnancy with Lorcàn i found out on my Gender scan at 16weeks that Lorcàn Had Hypoblastic Left heart syndrome we had to attend holles street every 2 weeks for check up on his heart i also had hyperemisis which made me very sick all the time, they planned for me to have lorcàn 10 days early and for him to attend crumlin hospital and get him ready for his first open heart surgery it was called the Norwood, he also had to be over 6pound to be a candidate for surgery
But that didn't go to plan i went in to early labour which meant he was 5weeks early weighting 4.9 unfortunately they couldn't do the surgery as he was to small and wouldn't make it, he was two days old we had surgeons coming down to our icu room talking about what was best thing to do at the time it was all bad news they were telling that he mighten survive the procedure were the bands had be placed on both lungs to stop less flow of blood to lungs and more to flow around body. Before he went for that surgery we had to get him baptised incase something would happen during surgery so we had him christened and he went for his surgery at 2 o'clock didn't get out till nearly 7 o'clock were they told us it went to plan what they had to do. Week later he was brought up in meeting we're they weren't happy with band on the left lung were it had moved so next plan was to place another band over the one already there and also insert a balloon to open a little hole in heart were the blood could flow through easier which was another 4 and half hours they came out to us again saying that they got band on perfectly and the balloon had opened the little hole so they were very happy with that, after a few days everything went down hill.
After been 4 weeks in icu we then seen better days and got moved up to the CHC ward which was so nice to get the ventilator out we cud hear him cry cuddle him when ever we wanted we felt so comfortable we had our own little room felt some what like home, so after a week of been in chc he slipped up 1 night and his breathing was really bad you cud see he was struggling he stopped breathing which meant he had to be brought back down to icu and put back on the ventilator we then got told he wouldn't be able to come off the ventilator everything started going down hill they tried to remove the ventilator so many times but he wasnt able to breathe on his own, hid 2 lungs had colaped he also got line infections he was fighting many battles with his tiny little body wasnt able for, he was having all these problems because they couldn't do the surgery that he needed me and his dad came home for one night and we got a phone call to say he had to be shocked his heart went in fast rhythm by them shocking him it damaged his tricuspid valve which meant it was leaking very bad they done echo's every few days
to see was the valve getting any better but unfortunately it didn't we were brought in to a room basically for them to tell us that lorcàn would never make it to surgery and there only option was to make him comfortable we were so upset after spending 8weeks living in hope taking it day by day that he would be okay everyday was a blessing to spend with him his sister was completely obsessed with him we were away from her for 6 weeks which was very hard for her as a 6 year old she didn't understand why she wasn't aloud in to icu to see him i was stuck with not been able to see her and her not been able to see us
We were in crumlin for 8weeks so Tuesday the 7/01/2025 we removed all lines and ventilator and made him very comfortable our amazing little warrior Lorcàn Jack Keegan passed away with his mammy and daddy right by his side it was so lovely to see his beautiful face with no ventilator and hold him properly with no lines we asked the doctors how long would it take for him to pass they said a few minutes but lorcàn gave it his hardest a stayed with us for 4hours he fought so so hard we miss him so so much our lives is tore apart with him not with us
We are trying to raise money to help towards expenses..
