London Marathon for Conor – Support West Cork Rapid Response
In April 2021, we tragically lost Conor King. At just 22, he had already left a lasting mark on so many lives. On that devastating night, despite the heroic efforts of the West Cork Rapid Response team - as well as the incredible bravery of Gary Barrett and Conor’s friends - his life was sadly cut short. West Cork Rapid Response is a volunteer-led service providing lifesaving emergency care, saving around 25 lives every year.
On April 27th, just days after Conor’s anniversary and the day before his birthday, I’ll be running the London Marathon in his memory to support West Cork Rapid Response.
Conor and I began our so-called “fitness journey” as teenagers, which mostly involved spending hours in Rochestown Park Hotel gym, perfecting the bench press while skillfully avoiding anything that resembled cardio. If a treadmill was involved, it was purely for resting between sets. That said, if he were here today, I know our competitive streak would have kicked in, and we’d be training together - unless he convinced me to switch to swimming, where his fish-like abilities would have left me hopelessly trailing behind.
My goal is to run the marathon in under three hours - no easy task. But during those tough training sessions, I imagine Conor beside me, pushing me on, just like the old days.
Your support means so much to me and to the incredible team who stand ready to save lives when they're needed most.
Thank you,
Vince
