Lambeth Schools Patrol- A Community Response

Tax deductible
BACKGROUND

In March 2016 in response to a community call to action ran a series of consultation meetings in response to after school violence in the Borough of Lambeth.

Those meetings included community members, parents, young people, representatives from the council, Metropolitan Police and other community organisations.

As a result of those consultations Lambeth Schools Patrol was developed. A peripatetic youth service which initially started on Brixton High Street.

With support from our Steering Group - Brixton Business Inclusion District, Brixton Police Partnerships Team, and Lambeth Council patrol was launch in July 2018.

Our volunteers receive accredited training which includes risk assessment, emergency first aid, self defence, Learning and Mentor training and is delivered over 12 sessions.
All volunteers are DBS checked and individually risk assessed to ensure that young people receive the highest level of support, advice and care on their transition through Brixton from school.

Due to the lockdown we decided in the interest of safety to temporarily postpone our patrol.

However, due to the community concerns regarding the safety of young people we have decided to offer our services to help train and develop community volunteers across the London boroughs.

We now need your support to raise the necessary funds to run regular patrols, continue our recruitment process, deliver training sessions, purchase the necessary equipment and uniforms, carry out DBS checks and risk assessments.

Please support this community initiative and help keep our children safe on their way home from school.

YOUR SUPPORT

All funds raised will primarily be used to relaunch Lambeth School Patrol following the Covid-19 pandemic and will help fund our ambition to replicate this model across London.
Our priority right now is to secure the necessary funds to recruit and train new cohorts of LSP volunteers. This training takes place over twelve sessions over 12 weeks. We aim to continue to recruit during the winter months and be on patrol during the spring and summer terms expanding to other boroughs as and when partnerships and support is increased.

We have a target of raising £20,000 per year, which would allow for three recruitment rounds over that year, enabling us to reach a target of 50 fully trained LSP volunteers patrolling five days a week in school terms. This funding would also allow us to deliver a discreet number of workshops for communities in London boroughs that wish to develop similar local initiatives.

Our training would provide communities with the training, policies and procedures necessary to address all safeguarding issues and enable them to develop and cascade the training to their local volunteers.

All our expenditure regarding LSP is publicly available and published annually in accordance with charity law.

Thank you for your support.
