Help build a safe place for children to learn in Tanzania!

Hello, we are Patrick and Laura, two Primary School teachers from the UK and Ireland.

We are currently volunteering and fundraising at the Bright English Medium School in Loliondo, Tanzania. Since arriving, we have witnessed first-hand the heart-breaking challenges these children face every day. We have also been left inspired by the hard work and passion every single person puts into this school to provide the best education and care they can. BEMS helps children who are vulnerable and live in poverty. They rely heavily on fundraising, as they are currently providing up to 400 children with education, food, clothing, basic accommodation, and a loving home.

We are amazed by the work BEMS do, particularly their strong emphasis on providing education and safety for girls in the community who otherwise would have limited access to education and are often subject to FGM (Female-Genital Mutilation), young marriage and early pregnancy.

Unfortunately due to a lack of funds they have had to stop their development of a new classroom, as their priority has to be to provide their children with food and meet their basic needs. This means that there are currently over 100 children who do not have a safe place to learn, 73 of which are currently sharing one classroom. As teachers ourselves, we can't begin to imagine how challenging this must be on a daily basis, which leaves us with nothing but admiration for the teachers and children.

Therefore, we would love to be able to raise some money towards the building materials needed to complete the classroom. For the classroom to be complete, we will need to buy materials such as cement, sand, concrete, windows and doors. We will be buying the materials as we go along, so the progress can shared with everyone.
