Lola (Grandmother) Documentary Fundraiser

Hi, my name is Carlo Ang - I'm a filmmaker raising funds to help bring my MFA thesis film, Lola, to life.

Lola (grandmother) is a short documentary that tells the story of my grandmother’s experience living in the Philippines during World War II. The film explores essential facets of the Asian-American experience: migration, assimilation, intergenerational scars, as well as the importance of preserving personal narratives. Lola is an attempt to uncover and reconstruct my family’s story while analyzing and reflecting on how these experiences have inherently shaped my life.

The money raised will be used to help finish, market, and distribute the film:
  • post-production costs
  • paying my talented animation team
  • distribution costs (film festival submissions fees)
  • marketing materials

This film serves a double purpose for me: it allows me the opportunity to tell a personal story that helps me understand the intergenerational impact on my life, and it also gives me the opportunity to tell a story that I hope will resonate with larger AAPI communities. At it's core, I believe this story is about simply asking our loved ones questions and listening, which I believe we all can do more of.

Lola is my MFA thesis project requirement to complete the Graduate Film and Media Art program at Emerson College.
