Hi, my name is Rachel and I'm fundraising to make the world of our adorable little boy, a whole lot more wheelchair accessible, cater to all his needs and add comfort to his day when he is in pain.
Logan is 7 years old, with Grade 4 spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, Periventricular Leukalmacia, Global Developmental delay, autism, non-verbal, wheelchair user. They are just his headings, but beneath each one is severe levels of pain, frustration, exclusion, sensory overload, sensory underload, stimming, vocal-stimming (this one is tough on the whole family).
We finally made the big decision, that a 2 storey semi-detached house is not built with Logan in mind and in fact, across Ireland, housing developments do not include bungalows anymore. So we have found a dainty bungalow surrounded by it's own woodland forest and it has Logan's future written all over it! We could finally
1. Build a path all through the trees and back round to his own ramp to the bungalow, on his wheelchair or disability trike! He could finally be a kid that can play safely outside!
2. Customise his own bedroom to include a secluded sensory room when his little world is just too much.
3. Logan loves water, and its the only time he is completely pain free so he definitely deserves a disability bath. His daddy & I can no longer lift him in & out of a regular tub.
4. Logan loves the 4 of us altogether, and to have us all on one level house, no stairs, no waiting for someone to bring him upstairs, having to crawl around on all 4s as there is no wheelchair upstairs for him to mobilise. Bungalows are like gold dust now, and this one would bring Logan's whole world together.
5. Make every room and door way in the bungalow, accessible for Logan to wheel himself around, which we need to work on now, to future proof for when Logan becomes a teen, then a young man and gets bigger and bolder!
Ireland as a country has failed the disability community, and with cerebral palsy being the leading diagnosis in our children, the government has no plans to ever improve. There is no help, aid or advice on how we help him when he's in pain, except nurofen and make him comfortable. Its torture. He deserves a better quality of life!
As a carer, the banks do not recognise my carer's allowance as an income, towards a mortgage or a loan. We will graft and labour to do all the work, but we have no finances to purchase all the supplies & equipment. We don't know how to ask friends and family directly, because in this climate, we don't know how much they could be struggling too.
I've always taught my beautiful 12 year old daughter Sophie, to chat and be kind to people when out and about. If someone needs help, she knows her daddy and I will always jump to their aid in what ever we can do. We know what our son needs to have a better life, but we just don't know how to finance it except to ask you for your help.
Please help our little boy be a little boy that can enjoy his own little childhood world.
