On August 31, 2022, the lives of Logan and Gracie were forever changed. For those of you who may not already know, Logan and Gracie were expecting their firstborn son on November 28, 2022. As most of us have likely experienced, with pregnancy comes a little shock followed by excitement, impatience, planning, etc. However, at approximately 12 weeks gestation, Logan and Gracie were given the devastating news that there was a high likelihood that their son was affected by Trisomy 18. In brief summary, Trisomy 18 (also known as Edwards’s syndrome) is a genetic condition which severely hinders fetal growth and development, commonly resulting in birth defects that are not sustainable for survival. After seeing a multitude of medical professionals that specialize in this condition, Logan and Gracie, the diagnosis was confirmed. They were given the option to terminate the pregnancy, as impending miscarriage was predicted to occur between 12-15 weeks gestation. Despite what the two of them were told was inevitable, they chose against terminating. That is one decision that no one should ever have to make in their lifetime. Being the young couple that they are and being faced with a decision of this magnitude, it is quite admirable that they chose to remain optimistic. After all, they leaned on the understanding and faith that with God all things are possible. Once the 15 week milestone was met, they were told that at any moment their precious little boy’s heart would stop beating. Once this occurred, labor would be induced, and delivery of their sweet Asher would ensue. On September 2, 2022 (at 28 weeks gestation), Asher Neal Perry left his mother’s womb to rest eternally with his creator. With great brokenness and shattered hearts, his parents, along with their family and friends, are grieving the loss of this precious child. Although devastating, we trust that God’s plan for Asher is much greater than what our minds can even begin to fathom at this time. Grief is a process without a timeline. For most of us, grief of this magnitude is unimaginable. Although they would never ask, they are deserving, and I wanted to create a fund for them in an attempt to hopefully lighten the burden that is so heavy for them right now and in the many days ahead of them. Gracie and Logan need our support as they process this tragedy second by second. As Logan quoted in his post, “so many emotions and none of the right words to help us understand”. As people who care for and love this family, there truly are no words that we can say that haven’t already been said before now. More than anything, pray for them; provide a listening ear or a shoulder for them to cry.
