LoftinLoaded LC is fundraising for The Green Heart Project for our beloved Charleston neighborhoods!
The Green Heart Project was started at Julian Mitchell Elementary School, a local Title-1 public school in a labeled food desert. The majority of students attending Title-1 schools come from low-income households that lack access to fresh fruits and veggies that we need to be healthy humans!
Started by Karalee Nielsen and Chauncey Jordan, the experiment of one school garden SPROUTED into much more!!! With over 16 locations, The Green Heart Project provides the opportunity for students to develop social and emotional skills through mentors and local role models. Children also learn the importance of sustainability as it applies to our local food systems, and why it is important for us as citizens to care for our environment.
The GHP also hosts an urban garden in Charleston that reiterates environmental responsibility to participate as active citizens; deepening the connection to cultural heritage and its ethics! They provide lessons based on nutrition, gardening techniques, and culinary processes!
LoftinLoaded LOVES local and the idea of getting outside for a good cause. Therefore, at the launch Symbiosis Artist & Vendor Showcase at Sweatman's Garden JUNE 1st, 3-7pm, Loftin Kohn will be hosting an open donation for such a great cause! Also, Sweatman's Garden plans to create a one of a kind craft Mocktial, giving a percentage of the proceeds to Loftin's crowd funding of The GHP!
