Sandy Bay Kalinagos of SVG Relief
We are Denise & Heddie indigenous Kalinago sisters from the island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We are raising funds for the Kalinago community of Sandy Bay, a community devastated by the eruption of La Soufrière volcano and hurricane Elsa in 2021.
The Kalinago, the original indigenous inhabitants of St Vincent & the Grenadines were revered as the last island and group in the Caribbean forced to succumb to colonialism. The indigenous Kalinago community are amongst the poorest of the population and have always been marginalized and treated less than to present day.
The Kalinago are people of the land, our community, homes and livelihoods have been severely and directly affected by the devastations of La Soufrière and Elsa. Some of our people are still in camps as they have no homes to go back too, some have lost everything, no aid or support for clean up, repairs or rebuilding, no aid or support for the loss of crops & livestock, no clean drinking water as our rivers consistently overflow now, and the list goes on and on.
Our Kalinago community are in desperate need of your help and support. We need food, clean water, clothes, toiletries, personal care items, tools and supplies for clean up and rebuilding and much more. The need is as urgent now as it was a in 2021! Please help us help our Kalinago brothers & sisters.
