Please help our residents oppose the construction of a 24-hour convenience store in a residential neighborhood. Many years ago Exxon obtained a variance to build a gas station in our residential neighborhood against the wishes of the residents that lived here. In other words, we temporarily let Exxon use our residential land for its commercial purpose. That bad decision by the town managers at the time was unfortunately realized when 2 successive fuel storage tanks leaks contaminated the property as well as the surrounding land and water.
Rather than restore the site to the residential cleanliness levels that existed before Exxon contaminated it, Exxon has decided to sell the property to a related NY company for $10 so it can build a 24 hour 7-Eleven in our residential neighborhood. It would be the third 7-Eleven in our town and the 5th convenience store, and the unit would be in close proximity to 4 schools. The "convenience" store would add more traffic, more noise, more light pollution and more opportunity for crime in our otherwise quiet and clean neighborhood. Maybe more importantly, it would likely prevent the site from ever being returned to the condition we gave it to Exxon in. Please help us help our town managers make the right decision this time and deny the variance so better options for the land can be explored.
Please visit our Facebook group page - Livingston United Against 7-Eleven, where information about the issue is posted, so that you are aware of what’s going on in your community and so you can make your voice heard.
