I've been recently producing visors for the NHS and carers around Knowsley, as I have noticed a high demand for PPE. I'm a 19 year old maintenance apprentice for Jaguar Land Rover, but have been stood down due to the current pandemic, which has granted me time to put my skills to use making these vital pieces of PPE. I am making a design found online. I'm able to produce around 20 per day, but due to material costs and this coming out of my own and my friends (who wishes to remain anonymous) pocket, we would like to ask for a donation to the production of these vital pieces of PPE.
I've currently made over 100 and have had an overwhelmingly positive response for the visors, but the orders keep coming in and demand is higher than ever before. I currently own my own 3D printer, and have been donated a second 3D printer in return for teaching my friend how to use it when this all blows over. Each can produce 10 per day, but can be more if i work through the night.
The material used for the 'bracket' (being printed constantly) comes in a spool of between 500g to 2.2Kg, which can create around 30 per 500g or 135 per 2.2Kg. The visor themselves are A4 sheets of acetate or transparencies, which are 100 for around £15 at todays price. If I get a large number of donations, i may be able to purchase a 3rd 3D printer which would increase production from 20 per day to 30 per day! If I get further donations then more printers would be purchased for even more production (for example, a roll of 1Kg PLA at 1.75mm costs around £15-£20 at todays price)
When the demand for PPE is decreased, and any printers i have serve no purpose to me or my friend, they will be donated to my local schools and colleges so that students can learn better about 3D printer, and each printer will have benefited in a national emergency.
All donations are greatly appreciated, no matter how much or little. All money and donations will go towards the production of these visors.
