LIVE FREE is a non-profit organization that organizes directly impacted families and individuals to implement community-based violence intervention strategies in black and brown neighborhoods across the country. We believe the power for community and systemic change is a direct result of people organizing at the local, state and federal level. When we organize communities to reimagine public safety through a public health lens, we unlock the power to shift our responses to violence from a solely punitive approach to one of healing and wellness. These community centered community violence initiatives connect individuals to comprehensive systems of support that address trauma, addiction, housing, and other social needs. These strategies have been associated with 30-60% reductions in shootings and homicides in some of our most vulnerable neighborhoods and have been validated repeatedly through independent evaluations and academic studies.
LIVE FREE USA focuses on organizing community members, institutions, activists, and those directly impacted by gun violence to ensure that local, state, and federal governments fund and support these life-saving strategies. Our work is led by world renowned activist and faith leader, Pastor Michael McBride, who was a positive force for change during the Ferguson uprisings.
By helping impacted communities raise their voices & demand we reimagine public safety by investing in community based public safety strategies, we work to turn our deepest pain into hopeful progress.
But what if that pain never existed in the first place? What if we dedicated our resources to a Premorial Fund and supported programs for the prevention of gun violence?
