LIU Staff Impacted by COVID-19 Layoffs
Donation protected
Long Island University has permanently laid off 52 members of Local 153 (27 at the Post campus, 25 at the Brooklyn campus). Another 35 members remain on temporary layoff until at least May 15 (15 at Post, 20 at Brooklyn). It’s tragic for these workers and their families, and it also deprives students and faculty of support at one of the most difficult moments ever for higher education. Many others in the campus community have been laid off as well, but the numbers are unclear.
I am seeking donations to help these laid-off workers to pay for groceries, rent, and healthcare costs until they can begin to receive unemployment. These workers and families are feeling the effects of a sudden loss of income *now*. I am not a member of Local 153, but I have lost friends and coworkers due to these layoffs. Your donations will go a long way toward helping these families make ends meet. Thank you so much for your support.
