In March 2016, Lisa suffered a traumatic brain tumor that left her paralyzed on her right side. Since then, she's learned to do so many things again: personal hygiene, ambulating around the house, and even driving a car.
But there are some therapy opportunities that are out of reach due to cost and lack of insurance support. These things have the potential to dramatically increase her quality of life, reduce falls, reduce daily pain, and increase her mobility. We're asking for your help to bring these therapies within reach.
Bioness L300
We're really excited about the Bioness L300 Go (http://tinyurl.com/y4yk5jdj). What's the L300, you ask? It's low-level Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) targeting the peroneal nerve to enable foot dorsiflexion and accelerate motor recovery.
Huh?
It's a band that she wears around her leg, below the knee. It sends electrical signals to her leg nerves in lieu of her damaged brain and causes her leg to move. It allows her paralyzed leg to step! I don't want to exaggerate here, but the trial we did a few weeks ago was pretty amazing. It was the first time in 2 years that Lisa's been able to walk without pain in every step. Here's a video of how it helped another woman:

Absolutely amazing.
These devices cost $6500, and insurance won't touch them. So it's all out of pocket.
It's been two years since her paralysis and we've come a long way. Lisa's learned to dress herself, get around the house, and cook for the family. But walking is difficult, painful and still unsafe (especially outdoors, and on uneven surfaces). Furthermore, insurance has recently balked at paying for regular physical therapy visits, which we consider absolutely necessary. So whereas this isn't a need, per se... it does meet needs. And it has the promise of dramatically improving her quality of life and health horizon.
If you are interested in being a part of this, we welcome you to team "Lisa-PT". If not, I trust you're putting your dollars to an even better cause and doing even greater good with them.
Thanks & God Bless,
Gary & Lisa
