I've never done this sort of thing before, so my apologies if I don't quite know how to go about doing this. I need to ask for money for my sister & her children. Not money for their future college educations. Not money for a family vacation or weekend trip. No. I'm asking for money that can be used for her house payment, to keep her utilities on, money to keep food on the table.
My sister has had a hard life. Her story is not mine to tell, but the low points include the death of our mother when she needed her most, a bad marriage, an ex-husband who walked away from her & their daughter without a second thought, never paid child support, & left her in a state of financial ruin. Times were tough for her as a single mother, but she provided for her daughter & plugged along.
Then one day she met Michael. He healed her brokenness & loved Maddie as his own. They married & were blessed with a beautiful son. Only the baby soon contracted bacterial meningitis. He was in the ICU for over a month & doctors weren't sure if he'd even survive, but he did. And baby Michael grew to be vivacious & healthy but required therapies & tests & the medical bills just piled up.
So Lisa & Michael kept doing what they could do. They kept loving their children & working hard. The salaries of a school teacher & construction worker don't amount to much, so each took side jobs & worked nights & weekends in addition to days. They sacrificed much but could never get ahead or even break even with all of the bills. So they just kept on working & never lost faith.
Then this past Sunday morning, Michael died. He was only 39. It was unexpected. Lisa was left a widow at the age of 44. Maddie lost a step-dad, but really the only father she has ever known . Little Michael lost his best buddy, and though he's the spitting image of his Daddy, he'll never know him. And Lisa is shocked, devastated, broken & grieving. On top of it, she now has to come up with money for arrangements & has to find a way to move forward while staying strong for her children. Maddie is just 11. She's in so much pain , but is more worried about her mom & if they are going to lose their home.
This is terrible. It's unimaginable. We are asking for prayers. So many people are asking what they can do to help. This is it. My sister will never ask for money. She's too proud & to convinced she has to handle everything on her own. She's not asking. I am asking. Please help take some of the worry away. Lisa is so deserving of a break. Please help her & her sweet babies. I'm the big sister. I'm suppose to take care of her & fix things. I can't fix this alone.
