Lincoln George Openshaw was born in April of 2018 to Kirstine and Clive Openshaw. Lincoln was born with a condition known as hypoplastic right heart syndrome. The nature of this rare congenital heart defect means that the right side of Lincoln's heart did not develop and that Lincoln was essentially born with only half of a heart. At 6 days old, Lincoln underwent the first of three necessary life saving operations at Medical City Children's Hospital in Dallas, TX. After his first surgery, Lincoln struggled to get enough oxygen while feeding which resulted in the need for yet another surgical procedure to install a g-button for supplemental tube feedings. On June 14th Lincoln had a heart cath procedure to place a balloon in his heart to open a hole he was born with that has been allowing blood flow through his heart, this hole has been getting smaller & the Dr's believe it is causing Lincoln's difficulties breathing. He suffered some complications following his cath and Lincoln suffered a cardiac arrest & collapsed lung the following morning. Following his most recent procedure, Lincoln currently resides in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, TX where he is growing stronger everyday. Kirstine and Clive cannot wait for the day they can return to their home in Weatherford, TX with their miracle IVF baby!
